Win XP scheduler to hamper dual-core with HT?

— 3:14 PM on March 7, 2005

X86-secret has an interesting look at how the Windows XP scheduler's behavior might impact the performance of dual-core processors with Hyper-Threading. Dual Xeon media encoding performance is examined with Hyper-Threading enabled and disabled, and whether scheduling is handled by the application or the operating system appears to determine whether Hyper-Threading can improve or even hinder performance. X86-secret's testing is done with a dual-processor rather than dual-core system, but it does suggest that Hyper-Threading may not be as beneficial for dual-core Extreme Edition processors as one might hope.
