TiVo to update advertising in recorded content

— 2:46 AM on April 6, 2005

As if subjecting users to pop-up ads during commercial skipping weren't enough, TiVo and Comcast are working on a system that will insert updated commercials into recorded programming. The updated commercials will replace the previously recorded ads, so users won't be subjected to additional advertising. Replacing commercials will also allow advertisers to target ads based on a subscriber's viewing habits, although I suspect most subscribers will be skipping the new ads anyway.
