Infineon preps GDDR3 for 512MB, 1GB graphics cards

— 1:51 AM on April 7, 2005

Xbit Labs has the goods on Infineon's new GDDR3 memory chips, which are designed for graphics cards with 512MB or even 1GB of memory. The chips are capable of running at speeds of up to 800MHz, which works out to an effective 1600MHz given DDR's clock-doubling properties. Infineon's new GDDR3 chips have been sampling for a couple of months and are expected to enter mass production in the second half of the year.
