Valve updates Steam hardware survey
Valve has updated its hardware survey of Steam users. The survey sampled nearly 860,000 unique systems and reveals some interesting hardware trends among gamers. NVIDIA graphics cards have over a 50% share of those surveyed, largely due to the popularity of low-end products like the GeForce FX 5200 and GeForce4 MX. Interestingly, the bulk of ATI's 41% share is based on the mid-range and high-end Radeon 9600 and 9800 series. On the processor front, Intel chips power over 52% of the machines surveyed. DVD drives are also popular, with over 85% of machines surveyed sporting a DVD drive. Perhaps that will encourage game publishers to stop spreading releases over multiple CDs.
