Opteron 100 series to move to Socket 939?

— 10:51 AM on May 5, 2005

DigiTimes suggests that AMD's dual-core Opteron 100 series could arrive for Socket 939. The report cites sources at Taiwanese motherboard makers, who claim the 939-pin chips will arrive in the third quarter of this year. The move makes some sense, since single-processor Socket 940 boards have been few and far between. Moving the Opteron 100 series to Socket 939 would allow it to be paired with less expensive unbuffered DIMMs, as well.
