Longhorn waves the red flag

— 12:44 AM on May 12, 2005

Taking a page from the Department of Homeland Security, Microsoft plans to use color-coded stop errors in future versions of Windows. Joining that familiar shade of blue in the palette of Windows "screens of death" will be the color red, to indicate the most severe problems, although exactly what makes one stop condition more severe than another is not explained. Longhorn development may continue to lag, even as features are cut from the final version, but at least in some ways, it is running 11 years ahead of schedule.
