The definitive CD-ROM drive round-up

— 12:51 AM on June 2, 2000

The guys at StorageReview, the 'net's best hard drive review site, have decided to tackle IDE CD-ROM drives after a long series of user requests. The results don't disappoint, as the SR gang shows us how much the latest CD drives vary in various types of performance. The clear performance winner is Kenwood's amazing 72X drive, which absolutely destroys the rest of the field in transfer rates and digital audio extraction performance. Quite a showing. Too bad the Kenwoods have been plagued with fusiness and other problems in the past. But more on that once I can get Dr. Evil to finish up his review of this beast.
