500,000 Pentium D chips expected to ship in 2005

According to a report over at DigiTimes, Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers expect Intel to ship only half a million Pentium D processors this year.

Third-quarter shipments of Pentium D series processors are only expected to reach 100,000 units, the sources said. By the end of the year, Intel will have shipped no more than 500,000 dual-core processors, the sources added.
It's unclear whether processor shipments are being limited by manufacturing constraints or whether Intel simply doesn't anticipate too great an initial demand for its new dual-core offerings. Dell seems enthusiastic about the processor, though. The OEM giant already offers Pentium D processors as options on several systems, including the Dimension XPS Gen 5, Dimension 9100, and Precision 380.
