Sony Flash player tops iPod Shuffle in Japan

— 2:54 AM on July 15, 2005

C|Net is reporting that Sony's latest Flash-based MP3 players are proving to be more popular than Apple's iPod Shuffle among Japanese consumers. The Sony players are available in similar capacities to the iPod Shuffle, but they all boast display screens, and some claim up to 50 hours of battery life on a single charge. All that for about the same price as an iPod Shuffle. However, it remains to be seen whether Sony's new players will manage to erode the iPod's market share in North America, where Apple's music players are undeniably chic.
