New "GT" graphics cards expected from ATI, NVIDIA

According to The Inquirer, we could see new "GT" cards from both ATI and NVIDIA in the next little while. ATI is apparently preparing a Radeon X800 GT to compete with NVIDIA's GeForce 6600 GT. The new X800 will reportedly be based on an eight-pipe R430PRO graphics chip built with a 110-nano fab process. With anticipated 392MHz core and 700MHz memory clocks, the X800 GT would have a lower peak theoretical multi-texturing fill rate than the GeForce 6600 GT, but much more available memory bandwidth.

In the green corner, NVIDIA is expected to launch its GeForce 7800 GT in August. This second addition to NVIDIA's new GeForce 7 series will apparently be a 20-pipe card with a 400MHz core and 1000MHz memory clock. Those clock speeds would put the 7800 GT's peak theoretical multi-texturing fill rate and available memory bandwidth even with ATI's Radeon X800 XT.
