Windows add-ons now require OS validation

Starting today, Microsoft will require that users validate copies of Windows XP through its Windows Genuine Advantage program to gain access to OS add-ons. Validation won't be required for security patches, but other goodies, presumably including Internet Explorer 7, will require a legit copy of Windows XP.
