EA: The sequel factory

— 8:23 AM on August 10, 2005

The NY Times has an amusing story on the trend toward sequels in video games, with a focus on Electronic Arts. The numbers for EA are astounding:

By year's end, Electronic Arts plans to release 26 new games, all but one of them a sequel, including the 16th version of N.H.L. Hockey, the 11th of the racing game Need for Speed and the 13th of the P.G.A. Tour golf game.
Has the game industry already lost its creativity?
