OS X x86 w/o AAPL HW

Slashdot has a story on the OS X developer edition for x86 hardware being successfully installed on something other than an Apple development workstation. Included in the news item is a link to a site with videos of the feat. I couldn't get either of those videos to play, but I did find a working screenshot and video on this page.

While this is a pretty cool hack, it's likely that Apple will prevent release software from running on the developer edition anyway. This certainly means that this particular hole will be closed before the first public release of OS X x86 hits the street. Nonetheless, it's interesting that Apple's own Darwin software was used to enable the hack. It goes without saying that attempts to get OS X running on non-Apple hardware will only intensify as the operating system gets closer to public release.
