Intel to detail new CPU architecture next week

— 12:56 AM on August 15, 2005

Details of Intel's next generation CPU architecture will be revealed at this year's Intel Developer Forum, which runs from August 23 to 25. The new architecture will presumably replace NetBurst, which Intel has been milking since the introduction of the Pentium 4. Analysts expect the new architecture to focus on lower power consumption rather than higher clock speeds, and scale from two to as many as eight cores with little problem. Be prepared to wait, though. Chips based on the next-gen architecture may not be available for another year and a half.
