S3 announces Chrome20 mystery chip

Both Hexus and the Inquirer have stories about the latest GPU from S3 Graphics, dubbed Chrome20. Details about this new part are sketchy, with no press release apparent on S3's site. I have been able to piece together the following: it's a 90nm chip with eight pixel shader pipelines aimed at the mid-range graphics market. S3 won't say what the exact clock speeds will be, but they're claiming to have the highest core clock speed around. Beyond that, all we know is that the Chrome20 seems to be typical fare from S3, with an emphasis on lower power, adequate performance, and quality video processing.

There's no word yet on whether S3's new chip will find a home in a graphics card widely available for purchase in North America, but S3 has struggled mightily on that front to date.
