Sun backs AMD with entry-level server line

— 2:09 PM on September 12, 2005

Mercury News has an article discussing Sun's new line of entry-level x86 servers and the impact they might have on the company's future. These aren't the first Sun products to feature Opteron processors, but their introduction today demonstrates Sun's willingness to commit to using AMD products across a wide range of workstations and servers. With prices as low as $745, and a full range of single- or dual-core Opterons available, these new products could create a significant surge in AMD's Opteron sales, thus driving much-needed revenue into the coffers of both companies.
