ATI announces volume production of 90-nano GPUs

— 12:41 PM on September 20, 2005

ATI has formally announced that its 90-nano Radeon X1800, X1600, and X1300 graphics chips are in volume production at TSMC. Despite numerous delays, ATI has plenty of good things to say about the move to 90-nano, including a hint at the clock speeds of upcoming products.

TSMC's state-of-the-art 90nm technology frees ATI from the limitations of less-advanced processes and enables a whole new level of performance and functionality for PC graphics. For example, the new ATI products have clock speeds around 50 per cent higher than products manufactured on older processes.
ATI expects "the latest cards" to hit store shelves this month, although there's no guarantee that all of ATI's next-gen Radeons will be available in September.
