North American HD-DVD launch delayed

— 11:42 AM on September 28, 2005

It looks like North America won't get a taste of next-gen DVDs until next year. Toshiba had originally planned to launch its first HD-DVD players in North America this year, but will now launch its players in February or March of 2006. Mass production of the players won't begin until mid-December, and Toshiba apparently wants to a few months to build up inventories. However, the company remains committed to launch HD-DVD players in Japan before the end of the year.
