Microsoft, Yahoo IM networks to communicate

— 2:12 AM on October 12, 2005

BetaNews is reporting that users of Microsoft and Yahoo's instant messaging networks will finally be able to talk to each other. It's about time. For years, Microsoft and Yahoo have maintained segregated IM networks, but pressure from Skype and Google's new IM client may have forced the two IM giants to cooperate. AOL, which makes up a big chunk of the instant messenger market with AIM and ICQ, does not appear to be a part of the deal.
