Socket M2 to come in second quarter

— 1:59 AM on November 4, 2005

AMD's upcoming Socket M2 has reportedly been delayed until the second quarter of 2006. A full line of Athlon 64 and Sempron processors will arrive for the new socket starting in April, complete with single-core, X2, and FX flavors of the Athlon 64. Socket M2 won't replace Socket 939 right away, of course. AMD apparently plans to make "performance desktop" chips with 939 pins until the first quarter of 2007; however, there's no indication that AMD will make new Athlon 64 processors available for Socket 939 once M2 arrives.
