PlayStation 3 a year away for North America

— 3:09 AM on November 7, 2005

It looks like the PlayStation 3 may not arrive in North America until the 2006 holiday season. The console is slated to launch in Japan in March, but the North American release will apparently trail significantly. That's a quite a different approach than Microsoft's Xbox 360 launch, which will have the system available in Japan just a few weeks after the North American launch.

Microsoft's jump on the next-gen console market has some comparing the Xbox 360 to Sega's Dreamcast. There are actually a rather shocking number of similarities between the two consoles; let's hope the Xbox 360 fares better.
