MSI to offer nForce4 SLI mobo with Audigy audio

MSI has announced an nForce4 SLI X16 motherboard with an interesting twist: onboard Audigy audio. According to MSI's press release, the K8N Diamond Plus features an integrated Sound Blaster Audigy SE with support for 24-bit/192kHz audio, EAX Advanced HD, and a 106dB signal-to-noise ratio. Details on the Audigy SE are scarce, and Creative doesn't list the product on its web site. However, a number of online retailers offer Audigy SE sound cards for sale. The sampling rate and signal-to-noise ratio specs of those cards don't match MSI's claimed specs for the K8N Diamond Plus' integrated Audigy SE audio, but EAX Advanced HD support is claimed by both.

Support for EAX Advanced HD audio should make the K8N Diamond Plus' Audigy SE the first motherboard audio implementation to feature hardware acceleration for 3D audio since SoundStorm. This isn't the first time an MSI motherboard has featured a Creative audio chip, though. A number of the company's current mobos integrate Creative's Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, although that chip lacks hardware acceleration for 3D audio. Thanks to The Inquirer for the tip.
