Intel announces plans to build new 45nm, 300mm fab

Intel revealed details today of its plans for a next-generation manufacturing expansion. According to the press release, Intel has committed $3.5 billion to a new fabrication plant in Kiryat Gat, Israel. The new plant will use 45nm process technology and 300mm wafers, and is scheduled to come online in 2008. This new fab, dubbed Fab 28, will be Intel's seventh 300mm production facility and the second based on 45nm technology.

Full production on 45nm will ramp when Intel finishes Fab 32 (currently planned for Chandler, Arizona.)
