HKEPC benchmarks the VIA C7-M

— 1:40 AM on December 6, 2005

HKEPC has some interesting coverage of VIA's new C7-M processor. The article's in Chinese, so bring a translator. Fortunately, English slides from a recent VIA presentation reveal the C7-M's clock speeds, wattages, various power states, and even the chip's encryption capabilities. Benchmark scores are also provided, although the C7-M 1.5GHz ULV doesn't fare so well against Intel's Pentium M 1.1GHz ULV. Despite its clock speed advantage, the C7-M is consistently behind the Intel chip, and FPU performance looks particularly poor. Power consumption proves to be the only performance bright spot for the C7-M-powered system, whose battery life beats the Pentium M system by an impressive 30%.
