iMac Core Duo reviewed

— 3:27 AM on January 17, 2006

Ars Technica has reviewed the 17" iMac Core Duo, benchmarking the system against an iMac G5 and a dual Power Mac G5. The iMac Core Duo's performance is surprisingly mixed, but it's hard to draw too many conclusions because the system was tested with only 512MB of memory. The iMac G5 and Power Mac systems were equipped with 1GB and 4.5GB of memory, respectively. The reviewer does note that OS X's interface feels snappy on the iMac Core Duo and that Rosetta performance is adequate with typical office applications. The new iMac is apparently significantly quieter than its predecessor, as well.
