AMD 65-nano desktop chips slip to 2007?

— 1:18 AM on February 9, 2006

Xbit Labs is reporting that Athlon 64 processors built using 65-nano fabrication tech may not arrive until next year. The report is based on roadmaps posted at HKEPC Hardware that show 65-nano Brisbane and Sparta cores arriving in the first and second half of next year, respectively. Brisbane will apparently be a dual-core member of the Athlon 64 family, while Sparta looks like a single-core Sempron.

It's a little odd to see AMD's 65-nano chips apparently scheduled for release next year, but that doesn't mean that Fab 36 won't be cranking out other 65-nano parts this year. AMD began its initial transition to 90-nano parts with Mobile Athlon 64 processors, and mobile chips may be tapped again for the first spin of 65-nano parts.
