GeForce 7900 series could be cheaper than expected

Xbit Labs is reporting that NVIDIA's upcoming graphics parts will cost less than one might expect.

Nvidia’s yet to be released GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB graphics board has planned retail price tag of $499, whereas the GeForce 7900 GT is projected to be available for $299. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the GeForce 7800 GTX 512 will be down to $399, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.
NVIDIA's use of 90-nano fabrication technology should make the GeForce 7900 series GPUs cheaper to produce than their predecessors, and it would be quite a coup if the GTX 512 was available for under $500. The GeForce 7900 GT's $299 price point makes sense, as well, as many GeForce 7800 GTs are selling for around $300. However, it seems unlikely that the GeForce 7800 GTX 512, which has only been available in limited quantities for upwards of $650, will be widely available for purchase at $399.
