ExtremeTech claims Vista won't suck
ExtremeTech has an interesting
article about Microsoft's upcoming Vista operating system. The article runs through a variety of features from the latest beta that show some definite improvement over Windows XP. Those features include an overhauled kernel, networking support that's been rewritten from the ground up, enhanced power management, a new audio subsystem, a new driver model that should allow users to update drivers without rebooting (along with getting rid of driver-related system crashes), and vastly improved security. With Microsoft having pruned WinFS and the Monad command shell from the initial Vista release, many felt that the new OS would bring little beyond an enhanced graphical user interface. This article refreshingly suggests otherwise, with nice screenshots to boot.
