Notebook fuel cell to appear at CeBit

— 2:45 PM on March 2, 2006

ExtremeTech is reporting that an innovative new methanol-based fuel cell will be shown at CeBit next week. The fuel cell, developed by Antig Technology and AVC, is powered by methanol, weighs less than four pounds, and fits in a CD bay. AVC claims that the fuel cell can increase a laptop's run time to eight hours when used in conjunction with an existing battery. No pricing has been announced for the unit, although more details are expected next week when it's officially unveiled. Samsung, Sanyo, and IBM are also working on notebook fuel cell prototypes.
