RIM, NTP settle BlackBerry case

— 6:13 PM on March 3, 2006

The BlackBerry won't be going away after all, according to this breaking story on CNET News.com. Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the hand-held e-mail device, will reportedly pay a settlement of $612.5 million to NTP, which sued RIM several years ago for infringing on its patents. The settlement gives RIM a license to the patents, and should allow it to continue selling the BlackBerry without risking further legal troubles.
