Patch circumvents Skype Intel-only feature

— 3:50 PM on March 4, 2006

Slashdot reports that a hacker has found a way around Skype's Intel-only limit. The limit restricts the ability to host 10-way conference calls in Skype 2.0 to users with Intel's Core Duo and Pentium D dual-core processors. Maxxuss, the author of the patch, says that only three bytes had to be modified to remove the limitation, and provides details of the procedure on his site. Skype was recently subpoenaed by AMD regarding the limitation, and is expected to provide a variety of documents, including anything related to any financial inducements by Intel.
