Widescreen LCD market to grow

— 1:00 PM on March 6, 2006

According to this story at DigiTimes, the widescreen LCD market is expected to see significant growth this year. Widescreen panels will reportedly account for 15% of all LCD monitor shipments in Taiwan, and about 10-15% worldwide. 19" and 20"+ displays should split the market in half, with most of the former being produced in existing 5th-generation plants, and 20" or larger displays coming from new 6th-generation plants. Widescreen growth makes sense, considering the increasing popularity of 20.1"+ 16:10 monitors like Dell's 2005FPW, which is often available for less than $500 with rebates.
