OCZ announces "world's first" low latency 1GHz RAM

Not content to sit and let Corsair get all the attention today, OCZ has just announced new DDR2 modules capable of running at 1000MHz with reduced timings. The PC2-8000 DDR2 Platinum XTC Extreme Edition and PC2-8000 Platinum XTC Edition are rated for operation at 4-5-4-15 and 5-5-5-15 timings, respectively. The two parts are shipping in 512MB and 1024MB flavors, and dual-channel kits are available. These modules also feature OCZ's proprietary XTC heatspreaders, which the company claims offer slightly better cooling than competing designs. It looks like OCZ will using reduced latencies to compete with Corsair's raw MHz, and it should be interesting to see how the modules compare.
