Samsung announces cell phone with 8GB hard drive

— 3:08 PM on March 7, 2006

Samsung has announced a new SGH-i310 cell phone that sports a tiny 8GB hard drive and is capable of MP3, WMA, and AAC playback. The phone runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and has a 2 megapixel camera, as well as Bluetooth and USB 2.0 connectivity. Expect to see the SGH-i310 debut at CeBit this week and ship in the European market in the second half of the year. If battery life is good and the price is right, this could be a successful enough convergence device to drive customers away from sub-10GB MP3 players like the iPod nano and Zen micro.
