Intel WiMax cards to ship later this year

— 12:27 PM on March 8, 2006

Intel mobility group general manager Sean Maloney has confirmed that the company plans to roll out its first WiMax cards in the second half of this year. Maloney says there is a "clear coalescing" around 2.3-2.5GHz, 3.5GHz, and 5GHz bands, and that "the planet can be covered using those frequency bands". Intel reportedly plans to phase out Wi-Fi in favor of WiMax within the next three years. Thanks to Engadget for the tip.
