Bigfoot to develop Gaming Network Accelerator

— 12:23 AM on March 9, 2006

Shacknews reports that a small start-up company called Bigfoot Networks has received a $4 million investment for a product called the Gaming Network Accelerator. Bigfoot claims that the accelerator will "completely eliminate the dreaded lag monster," but offers only a six-page paper that defines lag and explains its causes. The paper claims that lag with today's broadband connections is no longer caused by latency itself, but by packet loss, server congestion, and hardware bottlenecks.

Bigfoot's CEO is an ex-Intel employee, and he apparently takes lag very personally after meeting his wife in an online game. However, there don't seem to be any details on how this mysterious Gaming Network Accelerator will combat the aforementioned causes of lag.
