Google to sell access to books online

— 2:11 AM on March 14, 2006

eWeek reports that Google is planning to sell books online. However, instead of shipping books like Amazon, Google plans to make texts available online, likely in a similar fashion to its Google Video service. Google will presumably integrate book sales into Google Book Search, but users won't actually be able to download the books to their computers. US and UK publishers can already sign up to sell online access to their books via the Google Partner Program, which allows them to split revenues from online sales with Google.
