iTunes quietly begins offering movie downloads

MacRumors reports that the first feature-length movie has appeared on iTunes. The one hour and 39 minute Disney Channel High School Musical weighs in at 487MB and was quietly introduced yesterday morning. It was originally priced at $1.99, but Apple removed it shortly after release and subsequently reintroduced it for $9.99. The URL for the movie contains "viewMovie?id=", whereas iTunes links are traditionally labelled "viewAlbum?id=" or "viewVideo?id=". The release of a full-blown iTunes movie service along with a new video iPod has been the subject of rumors for some time, but licensing negotiations between Apple and movie studios are reportedly holding up the service's release.
