Asus announces Core Duo desktop board
Today, Asus announced the N4L-VM DH, a desktop microATX board designed for Intel's Core Duo mobile processors. The board uses the Intel 945GT chipset, and is Intel Viiv and Dolby Master Studio certified. Dolby Master Studio support includes Dolby Digital Live, which converts stereo or multichannel audio for Dolby Digital receivers, but it's unclear whether the board does this in hardware or software. The N4L-VM DH also features Intel GMA 950 graphics with onboard VGA and RCA TV-out, as well as dual SATA RAID (including one external SATA port), dual FireWire, and Gigabit LAN. Asus will also sell a separate R-DVI-ADD2 card that adds DVI output to the motherboard.
In related news, AKIBA PC Hotline! (in Japanese, translate here) has spotted an MSI Core Duo desktop motherboard selling in Japan. The board, which MSI dubs 945GT Speedster Plus, is also available in the microATX format, although it can be extended to full ATX via a strange PCI add-on card (pictured here). It also features Intel GMA 950 graphics with onboard DVI and S-Video out, as well as a PCI Express x4 slot, four SATA RAID ports, and dual Gigabit LAN. The 945GT Speedster Plus is reportedly selling for ¥27,800-29,800, which is equivalent to $237-254. No information on a US shipping date is available.
