Asus wins Apple consumer notebook contract

— 7:09 PM on April 4, 2006

A Chinese newspaper is claiming that Asus has won the contract for an unannounced Apple notebook. The machine will have a 13.3" wide-screen display and Intel processor, and should ship in June. Earlier rumors suggest that the notebook will also have a 1280x720 WXGA resolution, and that it will succeed the current 14" iBook G4. Apple is expected to eventually introduce a 12.1" Intel-based consumer notebook, as well, in addition to a 17" MacBook Pro. It looks like Apple has no plans for an Intel-based replacement for the 12" PowerBook, however; Pro and consumer Apple notebooks may not co-exist with the same screen size once the Intel switch is complete.
