OCZ announces low-latency PC2-5400 XTC modules

— 8:37 PM on April 5, 2006

OCZ Technology has announced new PC2-5400 Platinum XTC modules that it claims are the "fastest available today" at DDR2-667. The modules are rated for operation at 667MHz with 3-3-3-15 timings, feature OCZ's "platinum-mirrored" XTC heatspreaders, and will be available in 512MB sticks and 2x512MB dual-channel kits. While 3-3-3-15 timings are tighter than those of most DDR2-667 DIMMs, Corsair's TWIN2X1024A-5400UL dual-channel kits are tested for 3-3-2-8 timings at 675MHz and the same voltage as the OCZ kits. That would seem to contradict OCZ's "fastest available" claim, since the Corsair kits are currently available online for between $259 and $282. That's pretty expensive for a gig of memory, though; let's hope that OCZ's XTC kits will at least be more affordable.
