Best Buy to carry ThinkPads

— 1:50 PM on April 11, 2006

Today, Lenovo and Best Buy are expected to announce that Lenovo's ThinkPad and 3000 series machines will appear on Best Buy's store shelves. This will be a major step for the ThinkPad line, which IBM has traditionally marketed exclusively to business customers. Since Lenovo's purchase of the ThinkPad brand, the company has seemingly strived to make it more appealing in the consumer space. Last fall, Lenovo introduced the Z-series ThinkPads, which sport wide-screen displays and are marketed as multimedia notebooks "for work and life." However, one has to wonder just how appealing ThinkPads will be to the average home user, especially in the face of competing offerings from Dell and HP with edgier looks and lower price tags.
