Samsung UMPC due out in May

Samsung expects its Q1 Ultra Mobile PC to hit shelves on May 1, according to Reg Hardware. The device was first shown at CeBit last month, and is said to feature a 900MHz Celeron M processor, 512MB of RAM, a 40GB 1.8" hard drive, and a 7" 800x480 display. Reg Hardware also says the device measures 8.98" x 5.51" x 1.06" and weighs in at just over 1.7lbs. Some British e-tailers are already taking pre-orders for the Q1, although they're asking early adopters to cough up £799, which equals a hefty $1,399, or $1,191 without value added tax. Prices in Samsung's homeland are also reported to be along similar lines, with Engadget quoting a South Korean price tag of KRW 1,199,000, or $1,251. Again, let's hope these prices drop after launch, as the Q1 seems to be wandering pretty far beyond the expected $599-999 price range stated at the UMPC announcement.
