ATI working on Quad CrossFire?

— 1:55 AM on May 12, 2006

The Inquirer claims to have information regarding an alleged "Quad CrossFire" solution from ATI that would compete against NVIDIA's Quad SLI. The Inq says "[we] know that ATI is planning to introduce its own four-card stunner but we think it won't have it ready before the end of summer." NVIDIA's Quad SLI still isn't shipping, and companies like Alienware, Voodoo PC, and Falcon Northwest all say their pre-built Quad SLI machines won't be available for three to four weeks. Considering underwhelming early reviews of systems with Quad SLI GeForce 7900 GX2 graphics cards, ATI may have some extra time to push this rumored "Quad CrossFire" to market. Of course, ATI's implementation could also face problems and delays, and rumors say NVIDIA will release a GeForce 7950 GX2 retail Quad SLI cards some time this month.

Update: Falcon Northwest tells us it has been shipping Quad SLI systems for "more than a month now." However, the company's site does quote a four-week lead time on all Mach V systems, which include Quad SLI configurations.
