GeForce 7600 GS makes it to AGP
Elusive Taiwanese moles revealed last month that NVIDIA had AGP flavors of its GeForce 7600-series graphics cards scheduled for the third quarter. We have yet to hear of purported AGP-bound GeForce 7600 GTs, but NVIDIA has let us know that an AGP GeForce 7600 GS is indeed coming. The card is aimed at the $159-199 price bracket, NVIDIA says, and it has the same specifications as the existing PCI Express model:
Complementing the launch, Albatron has announced its version of the card, the aptly-named AGP7600GS. Albatron's AGP7600GS has slower memory than NVIDIA's reference—700MHz "effective" GDDR2—and it features a PCB design with a slanted PCI-E/AGP bridge chip cooler reminiscent of the older AGP GeForce 6600 GT. Along with Albatron, eVGA is also early in the game with an AGP 7600 GS on sale at Newegg for $159.99. Disappointingly, neither card features the passive cooler seen on NVIDIA's reference GeForce 7600 GS for PCI-E. Perhaps this omission can be chalked up to the bridge chip, which likely puts out some heat of its own.
