Following MySpace's acquisition by media conglomerate News Corp, Microsoft has launched a refreshed version of its own social networking effort. Dubbed Windows Live Spaces, the site replaces MSN Spaces, which Microsoft claims is the world's most used blogging community. Windows Live Spaces is integrated with other Windows Live services, as well, including Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail. For instance, Microsoft says Messenger users can talk to their contacts directly from inside Spaces. Microsoft also outfitted Windows Live Spaces with support for "gadgets" that allow users to customize their personal pages. The gadgets include an MSN video player, live poker, local movie showtimes, weather forecast, and, ironically, a Google search bar.
