Dell recalls flaming laptop batteries
Dell has announced plans to recall 4.1 million laptop batteries. The recall affects Sony batteries in some of Dell's Inspiron, Latitude, Precision, and XPS notebooks shipped between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006. According to a Dell spokesman, the batteries can overheat, smoke, and even catch fire in some cases—the likely cause behind the famous exploding Dell laptop reports. Dell has put up a website that lists the affected battery models and allows users to get them replaced.
