Earlier this week, a Japanese investment banking firm said it believed that Sony's initial supply of PlayStation 3 consoles would be below expectations. Word now comes from Taiwanese console manufacturers that Sony is likely to halve its year-end shipment target for the consoles. Sony officially expects to ship two million PlayStation 3 consoles in November and another two million in December, but that forecast may now be cut to just two million for November and December combined. Taiwanese moles tell DigiTimes the cut is likely because the PS3 has yet to enter volume production. Furthermore, both the Cell processor and the blue laser diodes necessary for the PS3's internal Blu-ray drive are reportedly in short supply.
