Core 2 prices to go down in Q2 2007
Prices in the current Core 2 Duo line will go down a notch, and Intel will also trim prices for upcoming Core 2 Quad Q6600 and Core 2 Duo E4300 chips, which are supposedly scheduled for the first quarter. A new Core 2 Duo E4400 processor will join the party in the second quarter, as will new Core 2 Duo E6320 and E6420 chips. According to HKEPC, those last two chips will be versions of the current Core 2 Duo E6300 and E6400 models with 4MB of L2 cache instead of 2MB. If this report is true, the Core 2 line is about to get a whole lot more crowded—especially if Intel also plans to add new models with a 1333MHz front-side bus in the third quarter, as other rumors predict.
A number of rumors have circulated these past few weeks predicting that Intel will launch some new processors early next year, but none of those rumors mentioned pricing changes to the existing Core 2 lineup. However, the folks at HKEPC have heard that Intel does intend to cut Core 2 prices in the second quarter of 2007. The cuts will be quite significant, the site says, reaching around 40% in some cases:
