Rumors trickle out about cheaper G80 derivatives
Bear Eyes doesn't mention specific release dates for the cards, but Nordic Hardware claims Nvidia will introduce all four models in March—right around the same time ATI is expected to launch its R600 graphics chip. Other rumors also predict Nvidia will add a $299+ GeForce 8800 GTS card with 320MB of memory to its lineup in the middle of next month.
Little information has leaked out about Nvidia's plans for mainstream GeForce 8-series derivatives so far, but Chinese site Bear Eyes seems to have hit the jackpot. The site has published an article that lists specifications and prices for four upcoming mainstream and low-end G80-based Nvidia graphics cards. The models include GeForce 8600 and GeForce 8300 cards, and their purported specs are as follows:
